A Multi-Project Delivery for Mondi Štětí Mill
This video was produced by Mondi Group about the new PM10 production line.
Raumaster Paper successfully delivered a comprehensive roll wrapping line, along with core handling and broke roll handling systems, for the new paper machine at Mondi Group’s Štětí mill in the Czech Republic. The delivery also included an automated solution for transferring parent cores from the filling area to storage racks – custom-designed to meet the unique requirements of the mill.
The state-of-the-art paper machine, located at the Mondi Štětí mill, was commissioned in December 2024. The machine will enable Mondi to meet growing demand for paper-based flexible packaging while expanding its extensive portfolio of innovative and sustainable paper and packaging solutions.
The new paper machine strengthens Mondi’s position as a market leader in sustainable packaging materials and supports the optimisation of production efficiency across the group’s kraft paper range. Even the first production batches demonstrated excellent runnability, strength, and consistent quality.
Raumaster Paper provided the roll wrapping line, core cutter, and broke roll handling systems for the new machine, having previously delivered a wrapping line for the same mill. This time, the delivery encompassed three distinct projects, all executed concurrently from start to finish, practically within a shared timeframe.
"The paper machine is a brand-new entity, which also includes storage, as well as the roll handling systems, which we delivered. The customer’s standards were extremely high. We met them through high-quality work, precise scheduling and implementation, along with extensive documentation, and active monitoring from engineering to manufacturing, says Raumaster Paper’s Project Manager, Tero Aronen.

Tailored Solutions for Unique Needs
Roll handling systems kick-off meetings were held in April 2023, after which the project entered its engineering phase. Manufacturing began in early 2024, with FAT testing conducted in Nakkila and Pori during July and August of the same year. Installation commenced in September, and all testing and start-ups for Raumaster Paper equipment were carried out stage-by-stage between November 2024 and January 2025.
"We stayed within the timeframe agreed-upon with the client. In all our work and throughout all phases of the projects, comprehensive preparation and correct resource allocation, prioritisation and flexibility played a key part in our success", says Chief Design Engineer for Roll Handling, Timo Montonen.
Delivered as a part of the project, the parent core transferring solution was a new product, developed using technology based on pre-existing equipment.
"For us, the parent core transferring solution was the first system where loading occurs in a separate location, with a robot transferring the cores to their storage positions. The system allows uninterrupted core loading, enabling us to tailor our solution to the client’s specific needs", says Chief Design Engineer for Core & Broke Handling, Jaakko Koskialho.

A Long-Standing Partnership
As the paper machine was entirely new, multiple contractors were working on-site simultaneously. Raumaster Paper’s installation was completed in close coordination with other operators.
"Every step had to be carefully planned in advance, as our schedule had to align with other construction activities. Our installation supervisors and installers did an outstanding job", says Aronen.
"The packing line we previously delivered - located about 200 metres away - also played a crucial role, as installation, electrical installation and start-up essentially transferred directly from that site to these three new projects", adds Montonen.
Raumaster and Mondi share a long history of collaboration. Both Raumaster and Raumaster Paper have supplied equipment for various Mondi mills, including in Sweden, Slovakia, Poland, and South Africa. A similar finishing solution was delivered to the Štětí mill in Czech Republic as early as 2002.
"We are a known and trusted supplier with a broad product portfolio. We deliver world-class equipment with high quality and on schedule. Collaboration with trusted suppliers is also essential – in these projects, both our Slovakian mechanical and Czech electrical installation partners did an excellent job, concludes Aronen."
