Raumaster Paper Oy supplies automated roll warehouse to Austrian printer
Herold Druck und Verlag AG in Vienna, Austria, a leading printhouse for newspapers and supplements is known for its enthusiasm for innovations. Therefore the company ordered an automated roll warehouse system from Raumaster Paper (RMP). The overhead crane equipped with a Mastergrip roll gripper is used in automated operation to store and retrieve paper rolls safely and quickly. This is a further step on Herold Druck’s way towards being one of the most modern printing houses in Austria.
Besides delivery of the crane and gripper installation, RMP will be also responsible for the installation of the entire roll handling and warehouse management system (RWMS). The user friendly RWMS is integrated with the in-house production management system and includes storage location optimization, housekeeping and diagnostics modules.
When unloaded from the truck or railway wagons and identified, the paper rolls are transported to the neighboring storage. The RWMS software specifies the storage location and guides the paper rolls along the wide slat conveyor line to the pick up point.
The rolls are picked up by a Mastergrip roll gripper installed on a double-girder overhead crane, which is fitted with high speed winch unit. The rolls are retrieved on demand from the warehouse to the output point and transported via a downender and V-slat conveyors to the unwrapping station, from where they are moved with carts to the printing press.
The mechanical Mastergrip roll gripper handles the paper rolls with diameters up to 1500 mm, width up to 1800 mm and a maximum weight of 3000 kg, and deposits them vertically in stacks.
By handling rolls using gentle Mastergrip lifting device the rolls can be stored in a space saving arrangement. Other features include all electric operation without leaking and maintenance intensive hydraulics, possibility to handle multiple rolls at once and increased safety.
Start up of the system is scheduled for the summer of 2011.
Herold Druck is the first customer in the printing industry to use the proven Mastergrip mechanical clamp that has been successfully used in automated warehousing at a paper production facility.
