Raumaster Paper to supply a comprehensive core handling line to Portucel Group in Portugal

Raumaster Paper will supply a fully automatic core handling system to the fine paper production line to Portucel Group. The new line will be installed in the group's Setubal mill in Portugal. The paper machine with a wire width of 11.1 m will produce around 500,000 tonnes of uncoated fine papers annually. The start-up of the production is scheduled for the third quarter of 2009.

Total delivery from Raumaster Paper Oy consists of several subsystems. A robot picks up parent cores from the storage and transfers them to the CleanCut core cutter. Cut cores are transferred up to two winders automatically by a line consisting of about 100 m conveyors and several core lifts. The recycling line transfers the butt rolls to the stripper and after inspection the stripped cores further through sorting and a buffer storage back to the main stream. The recycling line consists of two core robots, several lifts, multi-floor storages and conveyors. The pulper is fed by two lines. Butt roll unwinding line consists of a stripper and a wide belt conveyor. Broke roll splitter features a shuttling cutter enabling a steady material flow into the pulper.

The options of the delivery include also a core joining line to a location to be decided later as well as a semi-automatic core cutter and a broke roll splitter to Figueira da Foz mill.

The Portucel Group, with net sales of approximately EUR 1.1 billion, has three mills producing pulp and paper, situated at Setubal, Figueira da Foz and Cacia. The Setubal mill currently operates three paper machines with a total capacity of 275,000 t/a and a 500,000 t/a bleached eucalyptus pulp mill. The new machine will increase Portucel's total fine paper capacity to over 1.5 million t/a.
